Abstract

Diarrhea in children for several days can lead to dehydration, electrolyte disturbances and malnutrition, especially in toddlers. Malnourished children have a compromised immune system and are at high risk of life-threatening complications. Diarrhea can be controlled through pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies, one of the nonpharmacological therapies is the administration of honey to reduce the frequency of bowel movements. The purpose of giving honey is to reduce the frequency of bowel movements in children who experience diarrhea. This application method was carried out by observation and interview, with one client diagnosed with diarrhea. Honey application was carried out for 3 consecutive days with administration 3 times a day. The result of the honey application on the client was a decrease in the frequency of bowel movements. Overall, this study showed that honey application had a significant impact in reducing the frequency of bowel movements. This application uses 5cc/1 tablespoon of honey mixed with 10cc/2 tablespoons of warm water, given every 3 times in 1 day for 3 consecutive days. Suggestions from this study can be used as a basis for applying honey application to reduce the frequency of defecation in diarrhea patients and become a reference for further researchers.
