Abstract

Gout is a disease that is often owned by a person, the problem that usually arises in gout is acute pain or chronic pain in the joints, especially in the legs. Uric acid can change rapidly if the purine metabolism in the body is disturbed which results in increased uric acid levels in the body, and requires monitoring for the balance of purine metabolism, so that uric acid levels in the body return to normal. The purpose of this case study is to apply a decoction of bay leaf water to gout patients with pain disorders. The methods used in this case study are interviews, observation, and application of water decoction of bay leaves. Gout is an inflammation of the joints caused by increased levels of uric acid in the blood due to impaired purine metabolism. Pain is a condition in which a person feels discomfort due to the effects of the disease or injury he has. Application of water decoction of bay leaves is a therapy that can be used to reduce pain intensity and decrease uric acid levels in the blood. The case study conducted on Mr. R for one week three visits, the results were obtained before being given a decoction of bay leaf water on a pain scale of 8 from (0-10), and a uric acid level of 10.7 mg/dl. The nursing problem that emerged was acute pain, the intervention focused on giving bay leaf water decoction, observing the pain scale and gout. After giving the boiled water of bay leaves, the results of the pain scale were 3 from (0-10), and the uric acid level was 4.5 mg/dl. From these results, it shows that there is a change after being given a decoction of bay leaf water.
