Abstract

This research entitled is Pencarian Jati Diri Tokoh Santiago Dalam Novel The Alchemist By Paulo Coelho. The purpose of this study is to describe the process of finding Santiago's identity and the moral messages contained in the novel. This study used a qualitative descriptive method with a moral approach. The author used the theory of Abrams and Nurgiyantoro in analyzing the data. The results of this study show that there are five typical in analyzing the process of searching for Santiago's character, consisting of: exposition (opening a story), rising action (the emergence of the beginning of a conflict), climax (increasing conflict), falling action (completion of a conflict), and denoument (ending of a story) using the main theory from Abrams (2012). The author also used the theory of Nurgiyantoro (2007) to analyze moral messages which have three aspects of moral messages consisting of: human relations with oneself, human relations with society and the environment, and human relations with God.
