Abstract

Scheduling is part of teaching and learning activities in an educational institution such as a university or college is a very complex thing. This is not a serious problem when the college or university has a small number of rooms with a minimal quantity of teaching and learning meetings. But this will be a constraint when faced with the many factors constraint determining the schedule, such as many students, lecturers are limited, limited space ,. Muhammadiyah University of Sukabumi (UMMI) is an institution of higher learning located at Jl. R. Syamsudin, S.H. No 50 Sukabumi. Based on data from the website diklitbangmuhammadiyah.org UMMI has an active student of 3000 students, 133 lecturers and 38 lecture rooms. Obviously with the students who so many problems arise in the management of scheduling, this problem is often called the University Timetabling Problems (UTP). Examples of problems that often occur is the difficulty to place the schedule slot so as not to happen a collision, efficient time with minimal effort. One of the optimization methods for this problem is through the Genetic Algorithm approach. The Genetic Algorithm is a computational approach inspired by genetic theory and evolution to solve problems that require optimization. The results of the application of Genetic Algorithm as an approach in the optimization of lecturing scheduling resulted in the achievement of the optimal fitness value.
