Abstract

The research entitled “Nilai-Nilai Didaktis Pada Tokoh dalam Novel Matilda Karya Roald Dahl”. The research aims to describe characteristic of the characters and describes didactic values through character in the novel Matilda. The method applied is qualitative descriptive analysis with pragmatic approach. The theories are theories of character from Abrams (1999), Nurgiyantoro (2013), Reader and Woods (in Aziez, 2010). Theories of characterization derived from Jones (in Nurgiyantoro, 2013), Nurgiyantoro (2013), Panggabean and Prasetyo (2008), and didactic value derived from Aminuddin (2009), Endeh (2017), Fitriani (2017), Jones (in Nurgiyantoro, 2013), Nurmalasari (2017), dan Semi (1993). Based on the results of the study, there are four characters who give didactic value such as Matilda with curious character, independent, intelligent, critical, punishment giver, and helper. Mr. Wormwood's character with an unconcerned character, a swindler, self-centered, Miss Honey with a quiet character, observant, not easy to give up, simple, and Miss Trunchbull character who has a spooky character, a child hater, selfish and cruel. Then, there are five kinds of didactic value through the characters that are didactic value of morality in the form of good behavior, didactic value of intelligence in the form of ability to speak, read, arithmetic, critical and creative thinking, social didactic value in the form of responsible, tolerance, rights and responsibility, didactic independence in the form of independent attitude, and didactic value of patience is not easy give up
