Abstract

This article will describe the use of discovery learning and YouTube on the ability to write short stories for class IX at SMPN 4 Sukabumi City. This study used an experimental method with a one group pretest-posttest research design. The sample in this study were 26 students using a purposive sampling technique. The data collection technique was in the form of an essay test which was carried out twice, namely pretest and posttest. The results of the study showed that the average score of students when doing the pretest was 53.31, then there was an increase in the posttest results of 76.38. The calculation results from the test are obtained using the t-test, the t_count value is 15.072 and the sig (2-tailed) value is 0.00. Thus, the sig value (2-tailed) < 0.05 which indicates that there is a significant difference between pretest and posttest. So, it can be concluded that the use of discovery learning and YouTube models has an influence on the ability to write short stories for class IX students of SMP Negeri 4 Kota Sukabumi.
