Abstract

Self confidence is an important aspect in learning mathematics. Lack of self-confidence can make students feel unable to solve problems and can be one of the causes of difficulties in the learning process. This study aims to determine the cognitive influence of students in learning mathematics in terms of self-confidence in the material of the Two-Variable Linear Equation System. This research was conducted using a qualitative case study type method. The instruments used are tests and non-tests. The research subjects were class VIII at MTs Al-Kholil with a total of 24 students. The results of this study indicate that: (1) students who have high self-confidence have good cognitive abilities at the stages of remembering, understanding, applying, analyzing, and evaluating. (2) students who have moderate self-confidence cannot be said to have good or sufficient cognitive abilities. This is because students cannot apply well-remembered concepts or formulas so that the scores students get are not quite right. (3) students with low self-confidence have low cognitive ability. This is because students do not arrive at the understanding stage. The cognitive abilities reviewed by self-confidence are very important and interrelated.
