Abstract

This study aims to describe the form of social criticism that is represented in the short story anthology of Tawa Gadis Padang Sampah by Ahmad Tohari. The form of social criticism in this short story reveals how the complex problems of the life of the lower class or poor people often occur in Jakarta settlements. The type of research used is qualitative research. The method used in this qualitative research is the descriptive analysis method with the study of the sociology of literature. The sources of data in this study are the short story anthology of Tawa Gadis Padang Sampah by Ahmad Tohari, the theory of sociology of literature and related journals. Data were collected through the stages of reading the short story text carefully, classifying the data, interpreting the results of data analysis, and concluding the results of the analysis. The results of the study indicate that there is a form of social criticism in the short story Tawa Gadis Padang Sampah by Ahmad Tohari, including social criticism of poverty, social criticism of violations of community norms, social criticism of environmental pollution and environmental problems, social criticism of generations youth, and social criticism of power.
