Abstract

This study aims to describe the efforts of teachers to improve students critical thinking skills in social studies learning in the V-b class at SDN Lembursitu, Sukabumi City. The research method is descriptive qualitative. This qualitative research is not testing or rejecting hypotheses, but rather tends to new discoveries of the analysis conducted. The subject of the research is the V-b class teacher with 27 students. Data collection techniques using interviews and documentation. The instrument uses interview guidelines and documentary evidence. The data analysis technique was done in a descriptive qualitative manner. Based on the data received the average value of students in social studies learning can reach 80 from the KKM value of 70. However, critical thinking of students in the class is still very low. 10 samples taken by researchers, 3 students reached the target according to the indicators of critical thinking skills, respectively values of 90.90 and 75, while 7 students were still below the number 70. The results of interviews conducted stated there are supporting and inhibiting factors that are able to influence thinking skills critical of students in the Vb class at SDN Lembursitu. The conclusion of this study is that the critical thinking skills of V-b class students can be described as low and not in accordance with what is expected by the class teacher in social studies learning. This is seen from the resource persons 'assumptions that the low value of students' critical thinking skills is caused by inhibiting factors.
