Abstract

This research is entitled “Peranan Orang Tua dalam Novel Handle With Care Karya Jodi Picoult”. It aims at finding out the role of parents through Sean O'Keeffe and Charlotte O'Keeffe's character and the impact of the role toward children's character in this novel. It is also aims at finding out the moral massages contained in it related to the role of parents. The method used in this research is descriptive qualitative. This research used the theory of the role by Soekanto (2007) and the theory of the role of parents by Gunarsa (2000). The study approach used in this research is the sociological literature approach. The result found in it is the description of the role of parents contained of four aspects they are the role of parents as the parents, as the teacher, as the role model, and as the controller. The impact in it is caused by the role and the moral messages that contained in this novel. Those points could be seen through the character and social setting of the novel.
