Abstract

Gypsum waste can be one of the soil stabilization materials for the construction of road foundations, whose basic soil is plastic, cohesive, rapidly expanding and shrinking like clay. With the process of soil stabilization, gypsum which is binding to soil grains can improve the characteristics of clay to form a solid road foundation. The purpose of this study is to determine the effect of adding gypsum waste to clay in the weight density test and to determine the strength of clay soil by curing through CBR test with the percentage of gypsum waste 22%, 24%, and 26%. Soil samples tested in this study were disturbed soils originating from the Tegal Panjang area of Tegal Panjang District, Sukabumi Regency, while the mixture of test specimens in the form of gypsum waste was obtained from Gypsum Heritage in Jalan R.A. Kosasih Ngaweng, Sukabumi City. Tests carried out using the weight density test method with Modified Proctor and CBR (California Bearing Ratio) Unsoaked. The results of this study indicate that with the addition of gypsum waste in the modified proctor compaction test the maximum density obtained at a percentage of 22% gypsum waste that is equal to 0.992 gr / cm3 so that it reduces the value of the optimum moisture content that is equal to 36.50% and in the CBR Unsoaked test with the curing process which experienced the largest increase 14 days in curing that is equal to 3,552% which means that the land is included in the normal category in the strength of the subgrade for road foundation construction
