Abstract

This research was conducted as a way to find some solution in aquaculture that have problems in water quality. One of the problems in cultivation using floating cage is the decrease in water quality due to input from residual organic matter which can cause many problems. The use of clams as organisms that utilizing organic materials is expected to be able to improve water quality so that cultivation can sustain, especially in the sandpit lake. The effectiveness of clams was analyzed by calculating the decrease of nitrogen (nitrate and nitrite) during cultivation. Data was analyzed using analysis of varians where the treatment were used is density of clams, are 500, 1000, and 1500 g/net. The result showed that the different density of clams have no significant different to decrease the nitrogen concentration (p>0,05), so that the clams have not been effective to improve the water quality in sandpit lake.
