Abstract

ROBI NUR JAYAKELANA. The Utilization of Turmeric on the Reproduction Profile of Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) at the Sukabumi Freshwater Aquaculture Center. Supervised by Arif Supendi and Ade Sunarma. African Catfish (Clarias gariepinus) is a populer fish for cultivation. The successful of cultivation activities will be depend on broodstock quality, adequate feeding, and appropriate water quality. Addition of certain ingredients to the feed should be done to fulfill the nutritional requirement of gonad or egg developmental stage. One ingredient that can be added to feed is turmeric. The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of treatment of feed given different concentrations of turmeric on the reproductive profile and growth of catfish sires (Clarias gariepinus). Research has been carried out by mixing turmeric material on commercial pellets with doses of 0%, 0.25%, and 0.50%. Feed is given to catfish during the first gonad maturation. The results showed that addition of turmeric had no significant effect on growth, broodstock weight, gonad weight, survival, gonado-somatic index, hepato-somatic index, egg diameter, egg fecundity, hatching rate and survival of larvae. Based on the results of this study, further research is needed using higher turmeric doses or on post-spawning broodstock.
