Abstract
The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of learning and to compare between using culture-based ARIAS learning model, ARIAS learning model and direct learning model on student problem solving ability. The population in this study are students of class VII SMPN 1 Sukabumi city academic year 2017/2018 350 student. This research is a research using quantitative method with design in the form of pretestposttest control group design. The sampling technique is cluster random sampling. Selected class VII H as experiment class 1 as many as 35 students, class VII C experiment class 2 as many as 35 students and class VII D control class as many as 35 students. The instrument used is a description test and non test instrument in the form of observation sheet of learning implementation. The data collection technique is done by interview, test, and observation. The instrument test uses one way cell anava test with same cell whereas for advanced test of post anava one way with same cell using significance level α = 5%. The results showed that: (1) students' problem solving ability using a culture-based ARIAS learning model was better than student problem-solving ability using ARIAS learning model; (2) student problem-solving abilities using a culturebased ARIAS learning model is better than student problem solving using direct learning model and (3) student problem solving skill using ARIAS learning model is better than studeny problem solving using direct learning model.
