Abstract

Shark is a top predator in the food chain. Scientifically, shark have no other predator that must be avoided, so in their life cycle shark didn’t develop specific strategies for defending themself from predator. This research done with the aim to list species composition and growth patterns of shark that landed on TPI Karangsong, Indramayu. Data retrieval using random sampling method as much as 10% from total weight of shark that landed by each fishing boats.data taken is photo (for identification purpose), total lenght, weight, sex, and male genital size. The result showed there are about 21 species of shark from 599 sharks recorded they are C. sorrah, C. dussumieri, S. lewini, S. mokarran, Galeocerdo cuvier, Mustelus widodoi, Hemipriptis elongata, C. obscurus, C. falciformis, C. brevipina, Lamiopsis temmincki, M. Manazo, Chyloscyllium punctatum, R. Oligolinx, S. fasciatum, A. Baliensis, Chaenogaelus macrostoma, Hemigaelus microstoma, C. sealei, dan C. Limbatus are landed on TPI Karangsong. The species of sharks that dominating are C. sorrah as much as 210 sharks (35,1%), S. lewini as much as 124 sharks (20,7%), and C. dussumieri as much as 46 sharks (7,7%). Based on result of analysis to b value at 3 dominating sharks the result obtained that the growth pattern of the 3 shark species is isometric.
