Abstract

This research is motivated by students' critical thinking skills which are still low in biology learning. This study aims to analyze gender-based critical thinking skills and differentiation in ethnoscience based biology learning. The research subjects were class IX students from a junior high school in Sukabumi Regency with a sample of 62 students. The research method used was quasi experimental or quasi experimental with a non-equivalent control group design. The instrument used was a critical thinking ability test in the form of 15 multiple choice questions and an attitude questionnaire consisting of 7 questions with 5 indicators of critical thinking ability. Research data show that ethnoscience based biology learning can improve students' critical thinking skills as seen from the increase in pretest and posttest n-gain scores of 0.58 or the medium category. The critical thinking skills of male students are superior to female students and the upper class group students are higher than the middle and lower group students. The average attitude questionnaire for critical thinking skills is 76.61 or very good category. Multiple correlation test results Sig. F Change is 0.040 or <0.05, so there is a relationship between gender and differentiation of critical thinking skills. The conclusions in this study, the ability to think critically based on gender and differentiation increases in differentiation based biology learning.
