Abstract
Hypertension is a disease of the heart and blood vessels which is characterized by increased blood pressure. In general, hypertension is asymptomatic, in which the pressure is abnormally high in the arteries (Cognition, et al., 2021). Hypertension in the elderly occurs due to structural and functional changes in the peripheral vascular system which are responsible for changes in blood pressure including arteriosclerosis, loss of elasticity and stiffness of the arterial walls. So it can't expand as the heart pumps blood through the arteries. Consequently, the large arteries and aorta lack their ability to accommodate the volume of blood pumped by the heart, causing a decrease in cardiac output (Nurmaulina & Hadiyanto, 2021). Hypertension can be controlled with both pharmacological and nonpharmacological therapy. Soaking feet in warm water is an example of non-pharmacological therapy which is known to have the ability to reduce blood pressure in the elderly with essential hypertension. The method used by the author is a case study. The therapy was carried out for 3 days and every day the feet were soaked for 20 minutes. The results obtained were a decrease in blood pressure from 150/100 mmHg to 130/90 mmHg and a decrease in the pain scale from 6 (1-10) to 2 (1-10). It can be concluded that the application treatment of foot soak using warm water can have an effect on reducing blood pressure in the elderly.
