Abstract
Acute respiratory tract infection (ARI) is an infection of the respiratory tract either upper or lower respiratory tract, and can cause a wide spectrum of diseases from mild to deadly infections, which are influenced by the causative pathogen, environmental factors, and host factors. Complete immunization is one of the initial efforts to prevent the incidence of ARI. Efforts to reduce the risk of ARI disease need to be done by giving complete basic immunizations, giving vitamin A capsules, and increasing parental knowledge in preventing ARI. ARI therapy can also be done by nonpharmacological means at home such as giving honey and red ginger drinks containing flavonoid chemical compounds, alkaloids and attrition oil. Traditional treatment against ARI can use ginger and honey drinks because they are very effective and safer to use. Honey contains pinobanksine and vitamin C as antioxidants and antibiotics. The content serves to reduce the severity of coughing without causing side effects that can interfere with children's health. Honey has long been recommended by traditional medicine for the treatment of ARI-related coughs. The purpose of this study was to reduce the frequency of coughing due to ARI in children in the Jampang area, more precisely in Salenggang Village, Gunungsungging Village, Surade District, Sukabumi Regency. This research method is carried out by observation and interviews. Researchers gave ginger and honey drinks for 3 consecutive days. The results obtained after giving ginger and honey drinks to reduce the frequency of coughing due to ARI in the Jampang Region.
