Abstract

This research is entitled “Fenomena Surrogate Mother dalam Novel Little Fires Everywhere karya Celeste Ng”. The purposes of this research are to describe about the surrogate mother phenomenon and the life changes that occur in the main character in Celeste Ng’s Little Fires Everywhere. This research used character theory according to Stanton, social setting theory according to Nurgiantoro, and Surrogate Mother theory according to Boada and Caroleu. The research method used in this research is qualitative descriptive method. The research approach used is literary sociology approach according to Wellek and Warren. The results of this research describe surrogate mother phenomenon in the novel Little Fires Everywhere that occurs to the main character is caused by the character's urgent financial situation, this is an economic factor. And the life changes that occurs in the main character that her life always moves around, hide the identity of the biological father to her daughter, and feels strong motherhood feelings.
