Abstract

PAWESTI WULAN SARI. Synthesis and Photocatalyst Activity TiO2-N and TiO2- Cu for Tofu Liquid Waste Treatment Applications on Visible Light Exposure. Supervised by DEVI INDAH ANWAR and LELA LAILATUL KHUMAISAH. Tofu production at PT NJ Sukabumi produces liquid waste that has a high content of organic pollutants. The content of organic pollutants in tofu liquid waste which is directly disposed of without processing will become septic and smell bad. Therefore, it is necessary to treat the liquid waste. The processing method that can be used is photocatalysis using a photocatalyst, there are two photocatalysts made, namely TiO2-N and TiO2-Cu. The purpose of this study was to synthesize TiO2 with non-metallic N dopant and Cu metal dopant, comparing the effectiveness of the two dopant on TiO2 as well as conducting activity testing on tofu liquid waste with parameters BOD, COD, TSS, and pH. TiO2-N synthesis was carried out by the wet impregnation method using urea as the source of N, with a ratio of 95:5, 90:10, and 85:15. TiO2-Cu synthesis was carried out by photodeposition method using copper (II) chloride as a source of Cu dopant with a ratio of 99:1, 98:2, and 97:3. Characterization to determine energyband gapphotocatalyst was carried out using UV-Vis Diffuse Reflectance Spectroscopy (DRS). From this result obtained energy band gapTiO2-N in each composition is 2.38, 2.25, and 2.25 eV, at TiO2 -Cu 2.5, 2.13, and 2.13 eV. TiO2-N photocatalyst activity test results showed the best decrease in BOD, COD, TSS, and pH values at the composition of 90:10 with a % decrease of 50, 50, and 56%, with a pH of 4.03. The best decrease in TiO2-Cu is found in the composition of 97:3 with 79, 87, and 77% and pH 6.01. This shows that TiO2 doped with Cu metal dopant is much more effective than TiO2 which was doped with non-metallic dopants N in reducing the parameters of tofu liquid waste. The results of the photocatalyst activity test in tofu liquid waste also prove that the synthesized photocatalyst can work in visible light and is able to reduce the concentration of organic pollutants at high concentrations.
