Abstract

The change to getting old is a phase of life that is experienced by everyone and very human being. The aging process is characterized by changes that include the anatomy ang physiology of organ systems, so that it can affect the function of body parts and the overall ability of the body. Rheumatoid arthritis is a chronic systemic inflammatory disease in the jonits of the body, one of the clinical symptoms of joint disease or rheumatism in the form of abnormalities that occur in the joints accompanied by stiffness. The cause of rheumatoid arthritis is unknown, rheumatic pain usually appears suddenly although it my be acute triggered by stressor such as infection in the joint area. One of the diseases experienced by the elderly is rheumatoid arthtritis. One of the management of rheumatoid arthtritis with nonfarmacological therapy is lemongrass warm compress therapy. Compress is an act of using warm temperatures that can cause physiological effects, warm compereses can also be used as a pain treatment and also relax tense muscles and lemongrass plants can contain essential oils that are chemically based and have physiological effects such as a spicy taste as well as being warm ash an anti-inflammatory. This is studi aims to determine reducation of pain in the joint area. This research method uses a case study strategy. Lemongrass warm compress theraphy is done three times a week. Therapy is carried out for twenty minutes at each meeting. The results obtained after being given the intervention there was a decrease in the pain scale from 5(0-10) becomes 2(0-10). It can be concluded that there is an effect of giving lemongrass warm compress therapy to the erderly with acute pain problems due to rheumatoid arthtritis.
