Abstract

Appendicitis is generally caused by a blockage (obstruction) in the lumen of the appendix caused by fekalit (hard stool mass or lack of fibrous food intake). Complications of appendicitis include abscess, perforation, peritonitis, so it needs fast treatment for appendectomy. In general, patients will feel severe pain in the first 2 hours after appendectomy. One of the non-pharmacological efforts to treat pain is the Benson relaxation technique. This study aims to determine the effectiveness of Benson's relaxation technique to reduce pain intensity in post appendectomy patients. This research method uses a case study strategy. The application of Benson relaxation technique was carried out for 3 consecutive days from day 1 until day 3 postoperative. This therapy is done once a day for 15 minutes. The results obtained after doing therapy there is a decrease in pain intensity from a scale of 6 decreasing gradually to a scale of 4 for 3 days of therapy. It can be concluded that there is a significant effect of giving Benson relaxation therapy on reducing pain intensity after appendectomy.
