Abstract

Being older will be accompanied by the emergence of various diseases, decreased body function, body balance and the risk of falling. One of the diseases that often arise in the elderly is hypertension. Unfortunately, controlling hypertension with pharmacological therapy has not been adequate even though there are many available effective drugs. One of the managements of hypertension with non-pharmacological therapy is slow stroke back massage. The paper aims to determine the effectiveness of slow stroke back massage of the elderly in lowering blood pressure. The method of this paper used case studies. The client suffered from hypertension with a nursing diagnosis of decreased cardiac output related to changes in afterload and acute pain associated with physiological injury agents. Slow stroke back massage therapy was carried out 3 times in 3 days. This therapy is carried out for 3-10 minutes at each meeting. The results obtained after doing therapy there was a decrease in blood pressure from 160/100 mmHg to 150/90 mmHg, and there was a decrease in the pain scale from 5 to 3. It can be concluded that there is an effect of giving slow stroke back massage therapy to the elderly with decreased cardiac output.
