Abstract

Social isolation is a person's inability to establish relationships with others characterized by withdrawing behavior. Social isolation is usually caused by having experienced unpleasant events such as being rejected, loss of a limb, a meaningful person, title, etc. The application of therapeutic communication can help nurses do nursing care and can make client willing to interact. This scientific paper aims to provide nursing care and apply therapeutic communication to clients with social isolation. Collecting data using interview techniques, observation and questionnaires. The author applies therapeutic communication through implementation strategies for three consecutive days. The results obtained from the nursing evaluation are that there is a change where previously the client was not happy and felt uncomfortable after interacting to look happy and comfortable. Then, the client can also demonstrate how to get acquainted. The results of the questionnaire that when the pre-test was carried out there were signs and symptoms of moderate social isolation with a value of 4. After applying therapeutic communication, the post test results for signs and symptoms of mild social isolation with a value of 2. So it can be concluded that the application of therapeutic communication can make clients do not hesitate and feel comfortable to interact. Suggestions from the author are to apply therapeutic communication more often to mental patients, especially social isolation clients by nurses and nursing students who are practicing so that the clients length of stay is shorter.
