Abstract

RINI FITRIYANI. Utilization of Leaf Extract Cocok Bubu (Elatostema rostratum (Blume) Hassk) as Bioinsecticide Againts Diamondback Moth Armyworm. Thesis Adviser by LELA LAILATUL KHUMAISAH dan DEVI INDAH ANWAR. The use of synthetic insecticides in overcoming pest attacks continuously will harm the environment. This situation is experienced by cabbage and mustard green farmers which results in decreasing the production and quality of both vegetables. Two types of pests, diamondback moth (Plutella xylostella L.) and taro caterpillar (Spodoptera litura F), commonly attack cabbage and mustard green. Therefore, substitute insecticides derived from plants (bioinsecticides) is needed to overcome the negative impacts caused by synthetic insecticides. The use of cocok bubu (Elatostema rostratum [Blume] Hassk) as a bioinsecticide was based on a previous study that the leaf extract had 798.83 ppm of LC50 value. The purpose of this study is to determine the ability of cocok bubu leaves extract to control both types of pests on cabbage and mustard greens. A randomized block design system with six treatments (negative control, two positive controls, and sample extract 1, 3, and 5%) and three replications was used as the research methods. The data obtained were analyzed using ANOVA and Duncan's test. The results of the study found that the leaf extract of cocok bubu was effective in controlling the diamondback moth and taro caterpillar with the lowest attack intensity as 7.3 and 5.8%. The population ratio density of the diamondback moth was 0.19 head/cabbage and taro caterpillar were 0.33 head/plant while in the mustard green was 0.14 head/plant for highest concentration of extract. The effectiveness of cocok bubu as a bioinsecticide can be seen from the production of cabbage and mustard greens of 8.5 and 3.5 kg with productivity 3.54 and 1.67 kg/m2 , respectively.
