Abstract

The research is entitled “Gaya Bahasa dalam Puisi Corinna’s Going A-Maying Karya Robert Herrick”. The research aimed to represent the figurative language and the meaning of the poem. How Herrick uses phrases to describe about May Day celebration, teenage romance, and the lesson of life that he put on it based on his feeling and emotion. The research method is Qualitative descriptive with expressive approach. Data collected technique applies read, scrutinize, and take notes techniques from Ratna (2010, 245-246). This research applies figurative language theory of Keraf (1985) and mean theory of Djajasudarman (1999). Based on the theories that the writer uses, as result of the research showed that there are four figurative languages as alliteration, methapor, anaphora, and hyperbole. Further, the writer finds that there are four types of meaning such as narrowed meaning, extended, emotive, and cognitive.
