Abstract

Children with moderate mental retardation are very difficult and even unable to learn academically such as learning to write, read, and count even though they can still write socially. Origami is an effort to improve fine motor skills in mentally retarded children while considering that it is easy to do, even exercises are easy to get and can be done anywhere. The purpose of this case study is to apply playing origami to the fine motor skills of An. K is 8 years old with moderate mental retardation. The method in this scientific paper is a case study by giving origami play. Data collection techniques were carried out by interview, observation and literature study. After being given the implementation of 3 meetings, the problem was partially resolved with the results that he had started to be able to write a little, had begun to be able to recognize letters and count a little, had begun to be able to hold a pencil correctly and the response when communicating began to improve. The conclusion in this paper is that the giving of origami plays affects fine motor skills in children. Suggestions and input The author hopes that the results of this scientific paper can be used as reading material and provide information to add insight for readers about the application of playing origami on the fine motor skills of children with moderate mental retardation.
