Abstract

Gastritis is irritation of the gastric mucosa with indications of pain or tenderness in the left side of the abdomen. In its management to reduce the intensity of pain, basil leaves can be used as an alternative. The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of administration of basil leaf extract for gastritis sufferers. The method used is observation and interviews. Pain is a sensory and emotional experience that is quite disturbing, caused by actual and potential tissue damage. Basil leaves contain flavonoids and beta-carotene which are useful for preventing/reducing inflammation. The case study conducted on 16-19 May 2021 at Mrs. I. According to the results of the assessment, the client complains of pain in the left abdomen with a pain scale of 5 from 0-10. The diagnosis obtained was pain related to gastric irritation. With nursing intervention giving basil leaf extract to reduce pain then nursing implementation was carried out by giving 200cc / day. In the nursing evaluation, it was found that there was a reduction in pain intensity with an initial scale of 5 (0-10) and after administration it became 3 (0-10). The results of the study prove that the administration of basil leaf extract is effective for reducing the intensity of pain caused by gastritis.
