Abstract

ASEP SURAHMAN. Optimization of Aromatherapy Transparent Solid Soap Formula as a Sukabumi Specialty Product. Supervised by SALIH MUHARAM and LELA MUKMILAH YUNINGSIH. Aromatherapy transparent solid soap is known to contain essential oils that have properties for the body and skin. This study aims to optimize the transparent solid soap formula by modifying the formula to make aromatherapy transparent solid soap according to SNI standards and determine the effect of treatment and the optimum formula. The soap was made using the method semi-boiled process using coconut oil with NaOH and KOH as well as cardamom, nutmeg, and lemongrass essential oils from Sukabumi agriculture as aromatherapy with variations in concentrations of 0%, 0.2%, 0.6%, and 0.8% and using the curing process. KOH soap is more transparent than NaOH soap but has a lower hardness. Essential oils affect the color of the soap. The high concentration of essential oil lowers the water content and pH of the soap. However, increasing free fatty acid levels, but not exceeding SNI standards. The process of curing affects the characteristics of the soap. The results of the evaluation showed that the soap water content was 0.3- 1.3%, free fatty acids 0.4-1.6%, and pH 9.47-10.22. The results of the quality analysis showed the stability of the soap foam 95%-96.67% and the hedonic test showed STAK4 (Cardamom Aromatherapy Transparent Soap 0.8%), STAP3 (Nutmeg Aromatherapy Transparent Soap 0.6%), STAS4 (Lemongrass Aromatherapy Transparent Soap 0, 8%) for NaOH soap and STAK4, STAP4, STAS3 for KOH soap is preferred by panelists. The optimum formula results were shown by STAS4 NaOH soap and STAP4 KOH soap with foam stability of 95% and 96.67%; water content, free fatty acids, and pH have met the standard of SNI 3532:2016 regarding the quality of solid bath soap.
