Abstract

Diabetics are at risk for acute and chronic complications. Causes of complications that make diabetics helpless include the development of wounds (diabetic ulcers). One of the plants used for the treatment of avocado leaf wounds contains secondary metabolites in the form of flavonoids, alkaloids, tannins, and saponins. This study aims to determine the activity of the ethanol extract of avocado leaves (Persea Americana Mill) in accelerating wound regeneration in diabetic mice. The fractionation test used ethyl acetate and n-hexane solutions in a ratio (1: 1), (1: 2), (2: 1). Testing on test animals was carried out in five groups, namely negative control, positive control, and ointment fraction group, observed and measured for 10 days. The yield of the extract produced was 19.75%. Mice were induced by subcutaneous alloxan 0.5 ml at a dose of 40 mg/kg BW, injured on the back with a sterile scalpel, the initial wound length was 1.5 cm. Wound healing parameters were carried out by measuring the length of the wound and the percentage of wound healing. Mice given formulation I (1: 1) on the 9th day showed a wound length of 0.08 cm, formulation II (1: 2) on the 6th day had a wound length of 0.24 cm, and formulation III (2: 1) at 6th day showed 0.17 cm wound length. The results showed that the application of ointment with formulation III (2: 1) had the highest percentage of healing activity, which was 88.66% on the 6th day.
