Abstract

This research is entitled Gaya Bahasa dalam novel The Devil Wears Prada karya Lauren Weisberger. The purpose of this study is to uncover the figure of speech in the novel. The theory used in this study is the theory of the types of figurative language by Tarigan (2013). The research method that is used is descriptive qualitative method. The results of this research are: (1) In the novel The Devil Wears Prada by Lauren Weisberger linkage figurative language is found and those are all metonymy and dominated by fashion brands. This metonymy style is used by Weisberger to make a word more precise and exact so that it can create an appropriate and clearer and more tangible context. (2) There are two types of comparison figurative language that are dominating, those are metafor and simile. There are metafore and simile with their own function, but explaination and humor are the most likely to be found, thus the story became light for the target of this novel, that is teenagers.
