Abstract

TIARA LAILYA SURYANI. Quality Improvement Of Surface Water using Electrooxidation Method by Carbon Paste Electrode Modified Zeolite Combined Filters Zeolite and Activated Carbon. Supervised by Dr. Reni Mulyani, M.Si and Devi Indah Anwar, M.Sc. Research by electrooxidation method modified by filter has been carried out to improve the quality of river water into clean water. The processing technique carried out by the electrooxidation method used zeolite modified carbon paste anode with carbon comparison composition; paraffin; zeolite 3: 5: 2 and 3: 4: 3 and the electrooxidation method combined with zeolite and activated carbon filters. Carbon dioxide produced from the electrooxidation process is equivalent to the concentration of oxidized organic compounds. The carbon dioxide produced is determined by a CO2 meter. Water quality testing parameters include Fe, turbidity, Mn, hardness, organic matter, and E.coli. The results showed that the electrooxidation process using electrodes with a composition of 3: 5: 2 was better in reducing the value of water quality parameters. The efficiency of the electrooxidation systems were Fe 82%, turbidity 11 %, Mn 61 %, hardness 45 %, organic matter 56 %, and E.coli 98 %. The filters are Fe 96 %, turbidity 80 %, Mn 45 %, hardness 90 %, organic matter 73 %, and E.coli 99 %. Whereas the electrooxidation system and filter obtained greater efficiency of Fe 98 %, turbidity100 %, Mn 87 %, hardness 97 % ,organic matter 90%, and E.coli 99.99%.
