Abstract

This study aims to describe the implementation of learning by applying the Student Facilitator and Explaining (SFE) model based on Mind Mapping to improve critical thinking skills and describe improvement in critical thinking skills by applying the SFE model based on Mind Mapping in the high class. The research method used was Classroom Action Research (CAR) with a research design using the Kemmis and Mc Taggart models which were carried out in two cycles. Each cycle consists of planning, implementation, action and observation, and reflection. The participants in this study were 27th grade students of Al-Khoiriyah Al-Husna Elementary School in Sukabumi, consisting of 13 male students and 14 female students. The data collection technique of this study used tests in the form of pretest and posttest. While the non-test technique is in the form of observation, field notes and documentation. The data analysis technique used is quantitative descriptive. The results of the first cycle of teacher activity obtained an average value of 78 and the activities of students 75, cycle II obtained the value of the average teacher activity 88 and activity of students 84. In the pre-cycle through tests of indicators of critical thinking skills, showed completeness of 7%. Then increasing in the first cycle reached completeness by 44%. Whereas in the second cycle, the completeness reached 85%. The overall increase with the calculation of the gain formula scores 0.39 with the medium category. PTK concludes that the application of the SFE model based on Mind Mapping can improve critical thinking skills.
