Abstract

Geopolymer is an alternative method for concrete wich contributes to global warming caused by Portland cement production. There are a lot of results from researches prove that the most potential material for geopolymer used Fly Ash, because it contains SiO2 and more amorphous, also obtained from organic material like bamboo leaf ash. Mostly researchs found out characteristics of geopolymer that using bamboo leaf ash as partial substitution of fly ash. It contains a lot of silica and the material itself not used properly. Should passed sieve of #200 to fill pore in mixture. This research used experimental method with variation of bamboo leaf ash composition as 0%, 10%, 20%, and 30% of fly ash and it used small cube size to be mechanically tested as comporsive strength and porosity at age of 7, 14, 21, and 28 day, using 3 specimens each variation. Setting time testing also tested as supporting data. The result shows that the more substitution of fly ash using bamboo leaf ash caused decreasing of compressive strength and increasing porosity of geopolymer and also slowing the setting time of geopolymer. It happened because the difference of combustion temperature and the variation of silica and alumina composition between fly ash and bamboo leaf ash.
