Abstract
create and implement a new approach to learning. This study is a mixed method (Mixed Method) type of classroom action research (PTK) with a research design shaped pretestposttest control group design, which aims to conduct studies that focus on the use of the model Problem Based Learning is expected to increase the ability of solving mathematical problems. Instruments used in this research is to test the ability of mathematical problem solving, observation sheets, keaktivan students and interviews. Based on data analysis we concluded that (1) use of models learnig Problem Based Learning could improve problemsolving abilities. math students. (2) The use of the learning model problem based learning may increase (3) Improvement of mathematical problem solving ability of students to use learning model of problembased learning is better than students who use learning model through expository (4). Enhancement problem solving skills of the average learning outcomes in each cycle increases seen from the data baseline to the results of the implementation of the posttest, and the exercise of each cycle, from cycle 1, cycle 2 and cycle 3 there is an increase.
